ABOUT US

Welcome to Ocean Theory

Ocean Theory is where we blend creativity with tradition to bring the magic of Sri Lanka to life through engaging and interactive products.

We are a small team of two: Dilanka Gamage and Maneka Warangi, a husband and wife who currently reside in Kadawatha, Sri Lanka.

Our story began in 2021. We were discussing among ourselves how we could contribute to empowering education, which we believe is a solution to many of our country's problems. We sought ways to introduce more options for families to engage children beyond digital screens and explore how to showcase the unique culture and rich traditions of Sri Lankan. We explored innovative and interactive educational methods that enhance cognitive development, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a love for our rich traditions, thereby uplifting the slowly forgotten cultural heritage of Sri Lanka in an engaging way.

Motivated by this passion, we decided to mold something of our own. Our dream was to create more than just products; we aimed to craft experiences. We envisioned a world where Sri Lankan stories, traditions, and values could be shared and celebrated in every household. This vision became the cornerstone of Ocean Theory. We wanted to bring this to life by creating our own set of interactive educational tools such as board games, card games, and comic books.

Our mission from the start has always been to captivate every generation with the wonders of Sri Lankan culture through interactive and educational content.

Starting a business from the ground up was no easy task. As a small team of two, we took on multiple roles. Dilanka, a visual illustrator, storyteller, writer, and artist, breathed life into our stories with his vibrant illustrations and captivating narratives. Maneka, a writer, psychology lecturer, history enthusiast, and artist, imbued our projects with depth, historical authenticity, and psychological insights.

We embarked on an extensive research journey, delving into every aspect of Sri Lankan culture. Our first major venture was the creation of board games designed to both captivate and educate. We developed games like “Evergreen,” where players nurture diverse Sri Lankan trees; “Tales of Taprobane,” a creativity-enhancing story game for children, “Little Healer,” a memory game inspired by Sri Lankan Ayurvedic medicine; and “Kingdom of Kandy,” a party game based on the historic battles between the British and Sri Lankans in the 18th century.

The journey was filled with challenges. We wanted to carefully nurture these products to create something unique and original. From sourcing materials and designing products to getting them manufactured and handling marketing and distribution, each step tested our resolve. Yet, every obstacle only deepened our determination. Driven by our mission to create meaningful, engaging, and educational content, we slowly and steadily created these products.

In 2022, after successfully launching several board games, we wanted to create interesting Sri Lankan stories for the world. Recognizing comic books as an underutilized medium in Sri Lanka, we saw an opportunity to tell our stories freshly and engagingly. We began developing our first comic book series, aiming to create emotionally resonant content that would captivate audiences of all ages. By mid-2024, we proudly unveiled our first comic book, marking a significant milestone in our journey.

Our journey is far from complete. We are dedicated to continuing our exploration of Sri Lankan culture and creating products that celebrate and preserve our heritage. We aim to keep discovering and sharing the magic of Sri Lanka through fun, interactive learning adventures such as board games, card games, and comic books. We believe in the limitless potential of creativity and innovation and are excited about what the future holds.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us on this incredible journey. Your encouragement and belief in our vision fuel our passion. Together, let’s continue to explore, create, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.
